Leadership has changed.

We used to champion the “Command & Control” way of doing things. This was based on the military model and basically said “do this because I told you to”. Whilst this may be appropriate in wartime, it is fundamentally disempowering. The net effect of this is that it constricts people, increases sickness and long term absence, discourages proactive behaviour and makes people unhappy. Given that people are the greatest asset of any organisation, “Command & Control” is a very expensive and laborious way of running any organisation. We simply cannot afford it any more.

The next step in the leadership evolution process was “delegation & empowerment”. More often than not, managers, still in the “Command & Control” mindset were told “you should be trying to empower people”. So... they ended up just delegating more work to people and calling that “empowerment”. It didn’t work. Their people tended to feel that they were being put under pressure to achieve more but for the same reward. They were not valued, incentivised or truly empowered.... It was just “Command & Control” under a different title.

So what now...

The world is changing. There is a growing realisation that “we can’t pay lip-service to this stuff anymore. If we are going to get ahead we have to think differently, behave differently, realise that everyone in our organisation has ideas and acumen about how things can be improved and start listening and communicating more effectively”.

Who in an organisation needs to be at the forefront of these changes?  - Leaders. Managers ARE Leaders.

What are the skills they need to develop to make them effective?  - Facilitation.

Leaders have to develop the skills of top level facilitators to bring out the best of the people around them. Furthermore, if an organisation does not wish to invest in large-scale change programmes for all their people they have to help their leadership become that much more effective... How?

The modules

Purpose & partnering
This is the foundation course for managers and people in  positions of influence and leadership. Purpose brings clarity, commitment and a more refined confidence. It is the essence of leadership and helps people make decisions based on organisational values. 2 Days

Communication
Communication is perhaps the core skill’s set. This module helps managers communicate with clarity, impact and flare. They learn to run groups and teams interactively, generate improved listening and refine these techniques to work in one to one situations, for groups, meetings and with customers. 2 Days

Creativity
Creativity is the core of all innovation and problem solving. The course gives all the tools and techniques to develop strong, robust new ideas, to refine and innovative in approaching common situations, to help groups and individuals develop their own ideas and to institutionalise progressive behaviours. Creativity and inspiration go hand in hand. This is therefore an essential component in the building of effective leadership practices.  2 Days

Collaboration
This course develops collaboration through a number of key drivers and brings them into the places where we need them most... in meetings, in feedback sessions, encouraging greater team-work and cross sector/team collaboration. 2 Days

Facilitation
Calling on all of the previous courses this course gives people the techniques and the practice to bring people to clarity quickly, effect a flow of information, help others take more responsibility and ownership, encourage the flow of ideas, help others more from ideas to action, and do it in a way which feels natural, empowering and effective.   2 Days
